Pescheria Mattiucci - Notting Hill

To end mine and Chris' perfect day in London, we went for dinner at 'Pescheria Mattiucci' in Notting Hill from the high recommendation from Rose over at 'The Londoner'

I must admit, I don't think this would be a place that I would normally go in if I was just walking by, but I'm so glad that we did. As soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted with a big welcome and shown to our seats (Chris had made a reservation earlier in the week).

Our table was formed of two old fashioned school desks sat next to each other, this was different, but looking forward to the ever increasing experience we hopped on up and made ourselves comfy.

Our waitress handed us our menus (on clipboards) and talked us through the 'fish of the day' and our wine choices. We are not big white wine drinkers and a chilled red wine was suggested (all part of the experience as I normally drink red wine at room temperature).

We also let our waitress suggest our food for the evening, we started off with the 'Crudo'; a raw fish dish dressed with olive oil, sea salt and citrus juice, served with bread. This was an amazing dish and the Tuna was to die for!

Next we moved on to three smaller dishes, the Octopus was amazing and I could of eaten
that all night.

We shared a main meal of white fish with a tomato sauce.

To end the evening we shared an amazing cake from Trapani in Sicily, the delicious 'Cassata' was an amazing and very sweet way to finish our meal.

As we sat in our high up chairs, we could see the whole length of the restaurant. I could only describe this place as a 'superhero'. In the hours of light this place is an amazing fish mongers, that sells the freshest seafood from Italy. By the hours of dark, it changes its clothes (in a phone box fashion) into the small and ever so friendly restaurant. The fish that isn't sold in the day is cooked to the most amazing tasting fish I have ever had.

The walls were covered in a mix mash of photos, art and hand drawn images and the bathroom transformed into something from the 1950's (you need to eat here to see for your self).

The restaurant was full and to add to the whole experience, friends of the owners came in for a bite and everyone spoke Italian, loud, fluent and with lots of laughter.

We had, what only can be described as an unforgettable evening! We left feeling a little tipsy and making plans to go again. If you have the chance, you need to go here, just to experience a taste of Italy right on your UK doorstep.

Damien Hirst Exhibition

The second exhibition (Christian Louboutin was the first) of the day was Damien Hirst. Now this is one that I was too sure of, but went along and found myself thinking a lot. I find Hirst to be an artist that makes me think not only about what I am looking at but the deeper meaning and what his art translates to.

That aside I took a few (sneaky) photos to share.

If you would like to see the full exhibition, it is on at the Tate till September.

Christian Louboutin Exhibition

As part of mine and Chris' day trip to London we visited a number of exhibitions, the first one was my choice and one that I was really looking forward to seeing.

The 20 year anniversary of Christian Louboutin was celebrated with a showcase of the designs and inspirations over the years. The exhibition took us on a magical journey of an amazing mind of a man who wasn't and isn't scared of pushing the boundaries.

I couldn't take pictures while inside, but I managed to sneak a few.

Silhouettes of shoes were projected onto the walls.

I would highly recommend this exhibition and even though Chris didn't think he would enjoy it (too many shoes for his liking) but he really enjoyed the theory and the amazing 3D projection.

Day trip to London

On Friday, Chris and I spent the day in a very moody looking London (this was down to the weather, not the people). It was great to get into the city and not have to see a client, the day was ours to do as we pleased and we had planned a full packed day.

These are a few photos from the day, we did a lot of walking which meant I took some photos, most of them random and of buildings. I blame my Dad and Brother who are the bricklayers in the family and love to stop and look at the brickwork on buildings, I think it has rubbed off on me.

We spent the day visiting exhibitions, eating some very yummy food and seeing a few friends. I will post photos of the exhibitions and dinner in septate posts.

Chris and I after a long day.

When we returned home we found Bambi and Lola asleep on the sofa, we lit a fire and curled up with them, talking about our best bits of the day.

My photos have been taken using Instagram, my user name is @thekeypieces if you would like to follow.

Bookcases

One of my favourite images (this is one of many) I find myself pinning is bookcases. I love finding new ideas and getting some inspiration on how other people display their books and how I would be able to adapt them for my home.

These are some of the images I love and all I need now is the room and the books to display...
