The start of something new

I did something different at the weekend and I think (eekk, shouldn’t get my hopes up) that this is going to be a change that I stick with. Optimism aside and full on honesty, I am feeling happier and starting to have a positive outlook.

At the weekend I started running, not Forest Gump type running, a light jog is closer to the truth. But, I psyched myself up, got Chris to join me and we went on a 1.5 mile jog/walk/huffing/panting mess of a run. I haven’t ran for years and wow it felt like it! My aim was a total of 1.5 miles, which to some isn’t far, but when you are as unhealthy as me and do no real sort of exercise to speak of apart from a stroll in the fields outside my house, at my own slow pace. I mixed up my first run, with running (down hills) jogging and walking, there might of been a lot of walking, but I did it, I was so out of breath by the end of it, I was starting to question why I was putting myself through this. Surely, this can’t be good for me...

But, being the eager beaver that I am, I was up and ready for it again on Sunday. I was aching from the day before, I did my stretches, went with Chris again and I was a rubbish! I was slower than the day before (same route, but we went the other way round), I blame it on the squirrel that had sadly passed away in the middle of the road, that I made Chris move to the side and then we said a few words. I was rubbish because of that (of course....) it was nothing to do with me wanting to walk most of the time.

I am not to be deterred, having two rest days (that sounds professional), I woke at 6.30 this morning, dragged myself and Chris out of bed for a nice early morning jog and I completed my fastest mile (out of the total of three runs) in 11 minutes and 22 seconds. Still a long way to go, but it’s a start.

My inspiration and aim for my new healthy and fit outlook, is my secret ‘Fitspo’ board on Pinterest, I have been busy pinning images and quotes since the start of January 2013, of what I am aiming for and words of encouragement to get me out of the front door and to keep going when all I want to do is sit down in the road and catch my breath. It's only taken me two months, but I've started with no plan of giving up.

These are a few of my favourite images to kick me into gear.

    1. Thank you Suzi. It hasn't been great the past two mornings (raining, foggy and windy), so I have woken up, looked out the window and went back to bed. Eekk, naughty. I will run the next two days though.

  2. Big Well Done To You - This made me smile! The running journey is hard and frustrating at times but the rewards along the way make it worth while and 1.5m is ace..further than you'll move on the sofa! :)
