I've signed up for my first 5k...

Over the weekend, I decided to set myself a fitness aim.

This happened while I was sat up, comfy in my bed, with the laptop on, tv on, lots of naughty food and drink around me. I had put together my 'Sunday Randomness - Motivation' post and I was feeling positive. My thoughts turned to  the upcoming week and how great it will be to complete some sort of exercise each day. Still from the comfort of my bed, I planed my fitness schedule for the week commencing 15 April 2013, it looked good, but I needed something more, something to work and aim for.

I found myself searching for race dates, nothing too big, something that would be realistic and would give a novice like me a taste of what I could do when I put my mind to it. I found a 5k race, in my area for next month (that seemed realistic and enough time to train). I signed myself and Chris (for support) up for the 'Woodland Woggle' (great name) on the 19 May 2013 in my hometown of Surrey, the description won me over:

"The Woodland Woggle 5k run, is a challenging one lap Trail Race that starts in the beautiful Hampton estate, used in many film sets. Which goes through lovely Surrey countryside with some undulating hills into stunning bluebell woods, then has a descent into a large pine forest back to the finish, where bacon sandwiches, tea, coffee and cakes are available to purchase."

Who could say no to that? I couldn't! I am now signed up, my mind is ready..... I now need to get my body ready.

What time should I be aiming for, please let me know.

These are some photos from the 'Woodland Woggle' website from previous years.

Sunday Randomness - Motivation

The past week has been a busy one and the first week where I didn't run or attend the gym at least three times. If I was being completely honest and open, I went to the gym once and ran twice (one of those being at the gym).

So, to give myself a kick up the backside and the extra oomph I need for the week ahead, I have dedicated this post to 'motivation'. A collection of images, words and inspiration to make my put on my kit and get out there...

Nails - Essie Luxedo

It feels like Winter is never ending this year, Spring is trying to break through, but the cold, wind, rain and SNOW is all around us.

For this reason, I am still reaching for my darker nail polishes. My normal go to would be 'OPI - Lincoln Park After Dark' but after I dropped it I needed a quick replacement. After having a look on the internet, people seem to compare 'Essie - Luxedo' to my firm favourite and I decided to give it a go.

I am a fan off Essie polishes, so I didn't have too much of a problem trying out a new colour. Essie describes 'Luxedo' as "suit up in this deepest plum and boldly go where no man has gone before" and with a description like that, who am I to say no.

This colour goes on smoothly and I applied two coats, when dried, even though it is described as a deep plum, it could pass for black in some lights. To finish this look I used a fast drying top coat to give the colour an additional shine and lasting power.

Overall, I like this colour and am happy to use this in the colder months, but Spring, I am ready for some colour.

Fitness round up - March 2013

At the start of March I decided to change a few things in my life, regarding health and fitness. I dusted of my running shoes and went for a 1.5 mile run, which left me a mess! You can read all about it here and here.

After the struggle of the first few runs, where I stopped every few minutes to 'catch my breath' I started to focus and push myself a little further on each run. After a total of 15 runs mainly on the road (some on the treadmill) and about 1.5 miles each, I can now run (jog is more realistic) over one mile without stopping to 'catch my breath'. That is a massive improvement for me and I think I have caught the running bug.

In addition to start running in March, I also took the leap and joined the gym!!! I have fully lost my mind. I have been attending two exercise classes a week and working with a Personal Trainer, to put a program together that I can stick to and achieve my goals.

To track my miles, time and calories burnt, I have been using the 'Nike +' app on my phone. It has been really useful to see the stats build up on my phone, but even more on the 'Nike +' website. The below images are taken from the website.

The March round up:

In my head, this is how I look

The shocker of them all, I ran my fastest mile! I first ran my fastest mile on the treadmill, which I then set my mind to achieving on the road.
